Maldon is an historic maritime and market town in the County of Essex situated on the Blackwater estuary.  It is an ancient Anglo-Saxon burgh that was granted a Royal Charter by Henry II in 1171. From the Iron Age, it has been settled in by the Romans, Saxons, Vikings and Normans and is the site of the famous Battle of Maldon fought between Vikings and the Anglo-Saxons in 991AD.

Maldon is world famous for many things, such as the Maldon Mud race run in December, Maldon salt and the Thames barges that still sail from the Hythe.

The geographic location of Maldon, at the head of the Blackwater estuary, provides a varied landscape and is popular with sailing enthusiasts, bird-watchers, nature-lovers, walkers and many others in pursuit of various leisure activities. It also has excellent, and safe facilities to amuse children. The Promenade Park which is free to use has the very popular childrens' Splash Park which is open all summer. It also has a large ornamental lake, amphitheatre, play galleon and fort, aerial runway, model boating, crabbing lake, three sand pits, children’s play area, children’s maze, skateboard and BMX area, a scenic riverside walk, formal gardens, cricket and football pitches, tennis courts and a variety of shops selling food and refreshment. All in all, something for everyone - even Mums and Dads!

With a population of over 15,000, the Town Council is proud to serve everyone who visits, lives and works in Maldon and strives to deliver services of the highest quality, which is recognise by Maldon Town Council being awarded the status of a Quality Town Council.

The Town Hall, which is open between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, is situated at the top of Market Hill opposite the Maeldune Heritage Centre and telephone, e-mail and address information is prominently displayed throughout the site to make it easy for you to contact us.
