Judging the Maldon in Bloom entries is always an exciting and rewarding thing to do and no more so than when visiting schools and pre-schools where, of course, the town’s future gardeners are developing their skills and discovering their enthusiasm for growing flowers and vegetables. So, along with Sue Thomson, Treasurer of Maldon in Bloom, I had a lovely day on 14th June judging these entries.
After the judging, Terry and I went with Deputy Town Mayor and Mayoress, Cllr Mark Heard and Mrs Victoria Heard, to Di and John Rogers’ brilliant Cream Tea charity event which they hold in their back garden every year. This year it was in aid of the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance. And what a fantastic event it was! Their large and beautiful garden was packed with tables full of happy customers eating cream teas and listening to great live music from Jacs Band. Di and John had around 200 visitors and, supported by a small army of hard-working volunteers, raised £1,460 for Air Ambulance. Unfortunately we couldn’t stay for the evening barbecue, in aid of Farleigh Hospice, which I hear was another huge success.
