All Saints Churchyard

All Saints churchyard is a very prominent point in Maldon and is cherished by everyone who lives in Maldon. Dominated by the graceful ancient church of All Saints, and shrouded in mature trees, the churchyard contains many interesting headstones, graves and memorials, including the Rev. Laurence Washington, formerly Rector of Purleigh, Essex and Great-great-grandfather of George Washington, the first President of the United States of America who was buried in the churchyard in 1652. Adjacent to the churchyard is the Town’s War Memorial which is the focal point of the annual Towns’ Remembrance service.
